Destination San Diego, USA
We have visited San Diego a few times and is one of our favourite cities in North America. It has a laid back vibe, a vast selection of great food, beautiful beaches and year round good climate. Theres lots of family friendly activities and is a great place to do day trips from.
From LAX - Los Angeles Airport to San Diego is approximately a 2 hour drive depending on Los Angeles traffic. We have picked up a car from the airport and done this drive a few times.
We have stayed in the Gaslamp District and Bayside and next visit we would love to stay at the Hotel Del Coronado in Coronado.
Gaslamp district is buzzing. Fourth, fifth and Sixth ave is full of restaurants, shops and nightlife. We were spoilt for choice with over 100 restaurants offering a range of different cuisines. We enjoyed walking by all the restaurants in the early evening, pushing the stroller, reading all the menus, and trying to choose which restaurant to dine in. We stayed at The US Grant, A luxury Collection on Broadway, which is walking distance to the restaurants and shops. The US Grant is a beautiful historical building, rooms and suites were luxuriously furnished and the beds were so comfortable. This Hotel is Gorgeous. Room service was fun and we found the hotel to be very child friendly, concierge was extremely helpful with planning our stay.
If you would like to be away from the hustle and bustle then Bayside is a nice location. We stayed at the Hilton Homewood Suites Bayside. Although this hotel is new, on our stay we experienced some teething problems and found the service to be somewhat lacking.
Coronado is an island just off the coast from San Diego Bay. We have visited the famous Hotel Del Coronado several times and it is an iconic San Diego landmark. Even if you don't stay at the Hotel you must visit the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado and the stunning beach here.

San Diego has the 4th highest homeless population in the US and it saddens me to see this. Like some American cities, you do need to be wary that a nice suburb can back onto a not so nice suburb. we did end up in a sticky situation where we had to leave rather quickly. "Make change count" is a charity which has change machines over the city encouraging you to give change to the machine instead of directly to the homeless to make a change.
We love San Diego. The Gaslamp District with its abundance of restaurants and food options, Coronado with its beautiful hotels, beaches and family atmosphere and lots for the family to do and enjoy.
